The application window is open. The full selection schedule has been published. And the deadline is September 30, 2026.
Indonesian students who want to study for a fully funded bachelor’s degree in South Korea have until the end of this month to apply for the 2027 Global Korea Scholarship for Undergraduate Degrees (GKS-U) through the Embassy Track in Indonesia.
Unlike many scholarship announcements that leave applicants guessing about what happens after submission, the Korean Education Center in Indonesia has released a complete selection calendar — from document screening through to the final result announcement in January 2027. That transparency makes it possible to plan every stage in advance.

4 Scholarships for Indonesian Students
Indonesia has been allocated 4 scholarship slots for the 2027 GKS undergraduate cycle through the Embassy Track: 2 under the General Program and 2 under R-GKS.
Four slots for a country of 270 million people.
That isn’t stated to discourage anyone. It’s stated because understanding the competition level is the difference between a serious application and a casual one. Every document, every university selection, every line of your application materials carries more weight when this few positions are available.
The students who succeed are typically those who read every page of the guidelines, prepare their documents well before the deadline, and make smart choices about university selection. Not necessarily those with the highest grades.

What the Scholarship Covers
The GKS undergraduate program is one of South Korea’s most comprehensive international scholarship packages, structured to support students from arrival through graduation.
The program includes 1 year of Korean language training followed by 4 to 6 years of bachelor’s degree study at a Korean university. Full benefit details, including the monthly stipend amount, tuition coverage, airfare, settlement allowance, and medical insurance provisions, are outlined in the official Application Guidelines available through the Korean Education Center in Indonesia.
Download the guidelines before doing anything else. The benefit details and eligibility criteria are both contained there.
How to Select Your University
University selection is consequential in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. Getting it wrong can mean passing multiple screening rounds and still receiving nothing.
General Program applicants may choose up to 3 universities, drawn from Type A and Type B institutions. At least one Type B university must be included in the selection.
R-GKS applicants may choose up to 2 Type B universities.
Two restrictions apply universally: applicants cannot apply to more than one department within the same university, and changing fields of study after final selection is strictly prohibited. The major you list on your application is the major you will study. Choose it with that permanence in mind.
A practical note on strategy: spreading selections across universities of varying competitiveness — rather than concentrating on the most prestigious institutions — gives the application more paths to success. If all selected universities are highly sought-after, the risk of failing the third-round university screening at every institution becomes real, even after passing NIIED.
The Apostille Question – How Indonesia Differs From Other Countries
For most GKS applicants in other countries, Apostille-authenticated documents are required at the first submission stage.
Indonesia works differently.
The notice advises applicants to consider preparing Apostille documents in advance because the document submission window for first-round successful applicants is limited. But the hard-copy document submission itself is only required after passing the first round; the deadline for that is October 26, 2026 at 12:00 PM WIB.
The practical implication: if Apostille certification takes time in Indonesia (which it often does), begin that process now, before you know whether you’ve passed. Waiting until October 9 to start Apostille preparation and then submitting by October 26 is a very tight window.
Prepare the Apostille documents in parallel with your application, not after.
Hard-Copy Documents: Where to Send Them
First-round successful applicants must submit physical documents to the Korean Embassy in Jakarta. The required submission is:
- 1 set of original signed documents (all documents uploaded online, with original signatures)
- 1 set of photocopies of all submitted documents
- Documents not in Korean or English must include a Korean or English translation alongside a copy of the original-language document
Physical submission address:

How to Submit the Online Application
All applications go through the Study in Korea portal: www.studyinkorea.go.kr
Steps:
- Create an account on the Study in Korea website
- Complete the application form in full
- Upload all required documents
- Submit before September 30, 2026
If a university you’ve selected requires additional documents such as a portfolio, those must be submitted directly to that university according to its own instructions — they are not uploaded through the Study in Korea portal.
