What the Scholarship Gives You

The UTS is a partial scholarship for students from outside the EU and EEA. It gives 3000 to 22000 euros for one year of study. The money is meant to help with study costs. You decide how to use it. The university does not pay your tuition fee or any other cost for you.

The scholarship is for students who rank among the best 5 to 10 percent of their graduating class at their home university.

Is This Scholarship for You

You should apply if

  • You are from a non-EU and non-EEA country
  • You are not eligible for a Dutch study loan
  • You applied for a qualifying University of Twente master’s programme starting in September 2027
  • You have a conditional or full admission letter
  • You have a University of Twente student number
  • You rank in the top 5 to 10 percent of your graduating class
  • You meet the English rule of Academic IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 90 with a speaking score of IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL iBT 20
  • You can meet the conditions for a Dutch entry visa

You should skip if

  • You are an EU or EEA student
  • You are a Dutch student or a current University of Twente student
  • You already graduated from the University of Twente programme
  • You pay the statutory tuition fee
  • You applied to a pre master’s programme
  • You applied to a master’s programme at the ITC faculty

If you win the scholarship and later become eligible for the statutory tuition fee you must tell the scholarship coordinator. Your award will then be cancelled.

The scholarship gives youThe scholarship does not do
A cash award for one yearPay your tuition fee for you
A chance at a second year award in two year programmesPay your living costs for yourself

The university says clearly that this is not a full scholarship. Before you apply, check the total cost of study and living in the Netherlands. Make sure you can pay the rest without problems. If you cannot, you should not apply.

Two-Year Programmes and the Kipaji Scholarship

If you study in a two year master’s programme you can receive a second award. It has the same amount as your first year award. You must meet both rules by the end of the third quarter of year one:

  • An average grade of at least 7 out of 10
  • At least 50 percent of the required European credits

Winners of the UTS can also be considered for the Kipaji Scholarship. This extra award is only for programmes starting in September 2027. You must apply for the UTS first. Tell the university about your interest in Kipaji in your application motivation. Kipaji has its own extra rules so read them on the official website.

You can only receive one University of Twente scholarship.
