Korea is offering Peruvian students a way to earn a full undergraduate degree abroad without paying tuition. But the numbers are small, the timing is tricky, and one detail could make you miss the deadline by a few hours.
This guide explains the 2027 Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) for undergraduates for Peruvian citizens, and what to do before the window closes.
The Deadline Is Earlier Than It Looks
The Embassy lists the application period as 15 September 2026 at 11:00 KST to 30 September 2026 at 18:00 KST. KST means Korea Standard Time.
Here is the catch. Korea is 14 hours ahead of Peru. So 18:00 KST on 30 September is about 4:00 AM on 30 September in Peru. In practice, your real deadline is the night of 29 September. If you plan to submit on the “last day” in Peru, you may already be too late.
The safest plan is simple: finish and submit well before the night of the 29th, and do not wait for the final hours. Online systems can slow down when many people apply at once.
What the Scholarship Offers
The National Institute for International Education (NIIED) of Korea has set aside 2 full scholarships for Peruvian citizens. They are processed through the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Peru, which is called the Embassy Track.
The programme lasts several years and has two parts:
- 1 year of preliminary Korean language study
- 4 to 6 years of university degree study
So you would spend the first year learning Korean, then move into your bachelor’s programme. The exact length of the degree depends on your field. Plan for a long stay in Korea, likely five to seven years in total.
How Many Places Are There?
The Embassy lists 2 vacancies:
- 1 General place
- 1 R-GKS place
This is a very small quota. The Embassy explains that the goal is to strengthen academic and cultural ties between Korea and Peru. For applicants, the practical lesson is clear: competition is likely to be strong, so a complete and careful application matters.
What You Need to Submit
The rules are short and direct:
- Fill in all application forms in English. Use the official “2027 GKS-U Application Forms” file.
- Submit your documents online through the Study in Korea website (studyinkorea.go.kr) between 15 and 30 September 2026.
- Register as a user on the website before you apply.
- Read the 2027 GKS-U Application Guidelines carefully.
Two points stand out. First, everything must be in English, so if you have documents in Spanish, check the guidelines to see what translations or certifications are needed. Second, you need an account before you can apply, so create it early. Do not leave account setup until the final day.
