Ten places. That is all Huaqiao University will recommend to the China Scholarship Council (CSC) for its 2027 High-Level Postgraduate Programme.
The first admission round is open now and closes on 6 December 2026. A second round follows in early 2027. For international master’s and PhD applicants, the work starts with winning admission consideration at Huaqiao. A scholarship nomination comes only after that.
This guide follows the university’s own sequence, flags the documents that take the longest, and explains why a nomination is not yet an award.

Admission Comes Before Any Scholarship
Many applicants assume the scholarship has its own separate door. At Huaqiao, it does not.
You apply for admission first. Your college reviews your qualifications and then your academic profile. Passing that review gives you preliminary admission eligibility and a place in the scholarship competition.
Huaqiao then ranks those candidates and selects 10 for recommendation. Preliminary admission alone does not mean you are one of the 10.
Programmes You Can Choose From
Applicants choose from the full-time sections of Huaqiao’s 2027 international graduate catalogue. The catalogue also lists other study formats, so check you are in the right section.
Master’s options include:
- Applied economics and finance
- International relations, law and journalism
- Mathematics, biology and pharmacy
- Mechanical engineering and materials
- Computing and architecture
Doctoral options include:
- Philosophy and applied economics
- Foreign languages and literature
- Mathematics and materials science
- Mechanical, civil and chemical engineering
- Architecture and business administration

Eligibility: Degree, Age and Chinese
Applicants must be academically strong, non-Chinese citizens who meet Huaqiao’s degree, age, health and conduct requirements.
- Master’s: bachelor’s degree or equivalent, aged 35 or under
- PhD: master’s degree or equivalent, aged 40 or under
Chinese proficiency is the requirement that surprises people. You need HSK Level 4 with at least 180 points.
The only substitute described in the call is a teaching-language certificate from a Chinese university, for applicants who earned a degree there through Chinese-medium instruction. An English-medium degree from another country does not waive the HSK requirement.
The call does not require Chinese ancestry. It requires non-Chinese citizenship.
Documents That Will Slow You Down
Huaqiao asks for a study plan of more than 1,000 words or characters, in Chinese or English. Use the university’s templates and number your files in the order its checklist specifies.
Core documents:
- Passport information page, valid beyond 1 September 2027
- Recent one-inch colour photograph, taken within six months
- Highest qualification and transcripts from undergraduate study onward, all notarized
- HSK score report, or the qualifying Chinese-medium certificate
- Two recommendations from professors or associate professors
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form, completed in English
- Police clearance, normally issued within six months before submission
Two details need attention.
Mainland Chinese qualifications need CHSI verification. Overseas qualifications need CSCSE authentication, Chinese embassy or consulate authentication, or legally equivalent evidence. Final-year students can submit expected-graduation or enrolment evidence.
Medical examinations stay valid for six months and need the photograph, signatures and hospital stamps. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English need a prescribed notarized translation.
Authentication and referee letters depend on other people and organisations. Start them first, and keep polishing the study plan while you wait.

How to Apply
Huaqiao’s process runs in five stages.
- Submit the university application. Register in Huaqiao’s graduate application system, choose your programme and upload your admission materials during one of the two rounds.
- Pass the college review. Qualification screening comes first, then academic assessment.
- Wait for the ranking. Huaqiao selects 10 recommended candidates and issues their pre-admission notices.
- Apply to the CSC with your notice. Use Campus China, select Type B and enter agency number 10385. Follow Huaqiao’s instructions for supplying the generated CSC form.
- Await the final decision. Huaqiao forwards its nominees to the CSC, and results are published after the CSC completes its expert review.
The CSC application form is needed at the scholarship stage, after selection, not before it.
