€1,200 a month, for up to three years, to study a Master’s in France. The money comes from the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
That is the Eiffel Excellence Scholarship at Nantes Université. As of late October 2026, Nantes’ application portal is out of service, and the deadline clock keeps running.
There is a second catch. Eiffel at Nantes is two applications, not one. And Nantes sets its own deadline, which is earlier than the one Campus France advertises nationally.

Financial Benefits
The allowance is €1,200 per month at Master’s level. Nantes’ own page does not state the amount. The figure was confirmed through several other French universities’ Eiffel pages for the same 2027 cycle, and they all agree.
How long you are funded depends on where you enter:
| Your situation | Maximum funded duration |
| Enrolling directly in Master 2 | 12 months |
| Enrolling in Master 1 (covers both years) | 24 months |
| Engineering degree (diplôme d’ingénieur) | 36 months |
Eiffel is a living allowance. It does not pay tuition fees, and it does not pay your flight by default.
Check what Nantes charges for your specific Master’s before you accept a place. Tuition at French public universities is usually modest, but modest is not zero.
Do You Qualify?
Eiffel is built to attract students likely to become decision-makers in the public or private sector back home. Your application is judged on trajectory as well as grades.
Nantes lists these requirements:
- Nationality: non-French. Dual nationals who hold French citizenship are not eligible.
- Age: 29 or younger at submission, meaning born after 31 March 1997.
- Location: you must be residing abroad. If you are already studying in France, you are out of this round.
- Other funding: no other French government scholarship at the time of application.
- Application history: first-time Eiffel applicants only.
- French level: generally DELF B2 (minimum 65/100) or TCF Level 4 (B2) with at least 14/20 on the written section. Some programmes require C1. The requirement is waived for applicants from officially French-speaking countries, or those schooled in French through a recognized secondary system.
Eight Faculties, Eight Application Links
Nantes has no single “apply here” button. Eight schools and faculties each run their own eligible-programme list and their own online form.
If you submit through the wrong one, there is no sign your file gets rerouted. It sits with reviewers who are not expecting it.
| Faculty or school | Example fields | Taught in |
| UFR Droit et Sciences Politiques | Business, maritime, criminal, EU, international and public law | French |
| IAE Nantes | Energy economics, econometrics, maritime finance, consulting | French |
| UFR Sciences et Techniques | Biology, chemistry, computer science, maths, physics, bioinformatics | Several partly or fully in English |
| Polytech Nantes | Engineering degrees (IT, electronics, materials, energy, civil) | French |
| UFR Lettres et Langages | French literature (C2 French), French as a foreign language (C1 French) | French |
| IGARUN | Coastal geomatics, planning, territorial governance | See programme page |
| UFR Pharmacie | Biology/health, Graduate Programme M4R (regenerative medicine) | See programme page |
| UFR Histoire | Heritage, archaeology, international history, public history | Shares a form with Letters |
This table shows categories, not every programme. The exact links and the full track list are on Nantes’ official Eiffel Master page.
Nantes also said the final list of eligible 2027 programmes would be confirmed in mid-October. Check that your Master’s is on it before you write a single page of your statement.
Documents
Six items are required:
- ID copy showing your name, date of birth and passport number
- CV, one to two pages, in French or English
- Diplomas and class ranking: copies of recent degrees with dates, specialization and honours, plus proof of your standing
- Language certificate (DELF or TCF), if your programme requires one
- Class rank and transcripts from your last three years
- Professional project statement, one to two pages, in French or English
The class rank is marked mandatory on Nantes’ own brochure. It means your numeric position in your graduating cohort and the cohort size. A GPA does not replace it.
Your statement should explain why France, rather than continuing elsewhere, and what career you are building toward. A reference from an employer can strengthen it.
Anything not in French or English needs an official translation.
Many universities do not rank students. If yours is one of them, ask your registrar for an official class-rank letter now. Producing one from scratch takes longer than most applicants expect.
The Dates That Matter
| Milestone | Date |
| Nantes submission deadline | 12 November 2026 |
| Results from Campus France (by email) | From the week of 12 April 2027 |
That is roughly a five-month wait between submission and an answer. With the portal down, the real preparation window is shorter than it looks.
Two Files, Not One (Application Process)
Nantes states this in a bold warning on its own page: the Eiffel scholarship request is not your university admission.
You must also submit a separate, parallel “hors échange” individual admission application. Both are required.
Nantes’ international relations office collects all Eiffel requests. It forwards eligible files to faculty reviewers, then sends the supported ones on to Campus France.
Here is the sequence to follow:
- Confirm you meet every eligibility rule above.
- Confirm your programme is on the final 2027 list.
- Prepare documents now, while the portal is down.
- When it reopens, submit through your faculty’s specific form.
- Submit your separate “hors échange” admission file as well.
A down portal does not pause the deadline. The slowest documents are the ones to start on today.
